Decruz: We'll go for it against Sittingbourne

JAMIE Decruz admits he is “excited” for the Isthmian League South East Division play-offs next week, as Merstham go into the end of season competition with ‘nothing to lose and everything to gain’
The Moatsiders defied expectations this season by securing fifth spot in the very competitive South East Division and now have the opportunity to challenge for a spot in the Isthmian Premier (Step 3).
After a 3-0 win over Erith Town and a 2-2 draw with Sevenoaks Town over the Easter weekend, Merstham complete their ‘normal’ league fixtures with an away game at Eastbourne Town on Saturday.
The Moatsiders will then face Sittingbourne, who finished second in the table, away on Tuesday, April 29 with the hope of playing Burgess Hill Town or Margate in the final.
It was just two years ago when Merstham were in danger of relegation to Step 5 but since taking over Decruz, who had been given a preseason target of ninth-place by the club’s board, has not only steadied the ship but attendances at the Moatside are also on the rise.
