Preston Railway Station's role in the First World War has been recognised as it reaches the final stage of a competition to mark the most life-changing' rail site in the UK.

Preston is one of 20 to be shortlisted in the World Cup of Stations which is being organised by the Rail Delivery Group.
Voting is open until October 17 to try to find the UK's most life-changing station.
Preston Railway Station was a place of comfort for millions of servicemen from 1915 to 1919 who were either making their way to battle or returning home wounded and exhausted.
