Cinema tickets for Vue often come in cheapest; Odeon can be most expensive - that's before you add on the accompaniments including popcorn, ice cream and a Coke

Get your wallets out - this is how much a trip to film matinee costs

Going to the pictures - even without concessions - used to be one of the cheapest forms of entertainment.

The latest research shows a trip to the cinema on your average Wednesday afternoon now costs £9.33 in larger UK towns and cities.

London is, for once, not the most expensive place, outranked by Milton Keynes, where cinema tickets reached a record £17.49 in March.

Moviegoers in Swansea can save more than £10 for the exact same film and time as they enjoy the lowest cinema tickets of all major UK towns and cities.

This is according to a new study from Critique Jeu, which analysed ticket prices for the same film, running on Wednesday March 12, anytime between 4pm and 6pm at Vue, Cineworld and Odeon across 67 UK towns and cities with a population of more than100,000 population.

Where a network was not present, the researchers used estimates relative to what they usually charge in other cities and towns as well as what the area's current cinema prices are.
