Killie show their mettle in Saints win
Kilmarnock Standard
|May 07, 2025
Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes hailed his squad's ability to perform under pressure after their 2-0 away victory over St Johnstone.
-
A terrific first half strike from David Watson was added to after the interval by a Danny Armstrong penalty as Killie picked up their first away victory since October.
The win has ruled out the possibility of finishing bottom and now sees them six points ahead of 11th-placed Ross County with just three games remaining.
While it's certainly been a disappointing season, McInnes insisted it's a positive that they've been able to produce the goods when it's mattered most for a fourth successive campaign.
During the gaffer's first season, it was the race for the Championship title followed by holding their nerve to avoid relegation the next season.
Last year, they refused to buckle under the pressure of battling for European football and this time around, like two years ago, his players are picking up the points needed to stave off demotion.
