Retail venture planned in Morrisons car park
A plan to open a drive-thru coffee shop in a supermarket car park has been kicked out by East Ayrshire Council planners.
Blueprints proposed that the new venture would be built in the corner of Morrisons car park in Kilmarnock, opposite the filling station.
Motor Fuel Group, which is owned by the supermarket giant, was behind the plan for the new West Langlands Street development.
Documents did not disclose who would be running the shop but Motor Fuel Group generally house either a Costa Coffee or Starbucks on their sites.
The car park-which has 553 spaces - would sacrifice 49 spaces for the development, but the applicant argued that it would still be ample for shoppers.
A report reads: “A parking survey was conducted for the existing car park to assess its current usage levels at peak times.
“The report considered that the remaining spaces within the Morrisons car park were more than sufficient to accommodate the needs of the existing Morrisons store and the new drive thru.”
