Mehbooba Mufti slams Govt Over Cuts to BGSBU Funding
Kashmir Observer
|FEBRUARY 6, 2026 ISSUE
JKPDP president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday criticised the Jammu and Kashmir government over what she described as sustained underfunding of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) in the Pir Panjal region, warning that the institution is being pushed towards a “managed decline”.
Mufti said the university— established to provide quality higher education and spur social and economic development in Pir Panjal—is now facing “institutional abandonment” due to steep cuts in capital funding over recent years.
