KPDCL Restores Power Supply Across Kashmir After Snow
Kashmir Observer
|JANUARY 26, 2026 ISSUE
The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. (KPDCL) on Sunday announced the successful and near-complete restoration of power supply across the Kashmir Valley following a severe spell of gusty winds and heavy snowfall that caused widespread damage to electricity infrastructure.
In a statement, KPDCL said the adverse weather conditions led to extensive damage to high-tension and low-tension networks, distribution transformers (DTs) and sub-transmission lines across several areas. “In many localities, rooftops were blown onto overhead lines, further aggravating the damage and resulting in prolonged power disruptions,” the corporation said.
Despite challenging conditions, KPDCL achieved restoration in a time-bound manner through coordinated, round-the-clock field operations and continuous monitoring. All 33 kV networks—covering all 135 feeders and 333 receiving stations—have been fully restored and charged.
