In a region where journalism often comes at the cost of safety, stability, and even freedom, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s remarks on local media coverage around Martyrs’ Day are deeply disappointing. His recent post on X, lashing out at Jammu and Kashmir’s press, accusing some outlets of cowardice and others of being “sellouts,” is a serious and unfair accusation against editors and journalists who have pursued this profession with all its uncertainties and lack of economic utility.
