Isle of Thanet Gazette
|April 25, 2025
TURNER Contemporary is celebrating Turner 250, marking 250 years since the birth of JMW Turner, with the display of his remarkable painting, Waves Breaking On A Lee Shore at Margate (Study For 'Rockets And Blue Lights, c1840).
On display now at the Margate gallery, the painting captures the raw energy of a stormy sea viewed from the shore with an experimental style that Turner uses to convey the intensity of the scene. Turner had a particular fascination with seascapes and coastal scenes with Margate being one of his favourite spots.
