TURNER Contemporary is celebrating Turner 250, marking 250 years since the birth of JMW Turner, with the display of his remarkable painting, Waves Breaking On A Lee Shore at Margate (Study For 'Rockets And Blue Lights, c1840).

Painting on show to mark 250 years since birth of Turner

On display now at the Margate gallery, the painting captures the raw energy of a stormy sea viewed from the shore with an experimental style that Turner uses to convey the intensity of the scene. Turner had a particular fascination with seascapes and coastal scenes with Margate being one of his favourite spots.
