Toronto provides the perfect city break for those who like a slice of the outdoors alongside the food and culture of a buzzing metropolis.

Visitors can find 1,500 parks and green spaces available across the city, escape to Toronto’ islands on Lake Ontario or venture further afield for a day trip into the Niagara region. Here are some of the top things to do:

Discover Toronto's islands by bike

The Toronto Islands are a peaceful oasis away from the city, an easy 10-minute ferry away.

The islands sit close to the city’s downtown area but feel worlds away - they are North America’s biggest car-free community so the best way to explore is on two wheels.

The 15 total islands are all connected by paths and trails. Visitors can either bring their own bikes or they are easily rented from Toronto Island Bicycle Rentals on Centre Island.

Visitors can head out to Gibraltar Point Lighthouse, built in 1808, and learn about its spooky backstory, or choose one of the many beaches across the islands to enjoy from Ward Island’s youthful, beach-club vibe to the quieter stretch of Gibraltar with endless views over Lake Ontario.
