I collapsed at home after super flu left me struggling to breathe it was so frightening

I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE

LIVERPOOL legend lan Rush feared that he was going to die after contracting 'super flu'.

The 64-year-old is now recovering after collapsing in the kitchen of his Chester home.

But the former Anfield and Wales striker thought that was it for him as he lay on the ground struggling to breathe.

In his first interview, Rush admitted: "It was frightening, and I thought I wasn't going to survive.

"I got up around 2am because I was struggling to breathe and went down to make a cup of tea.

"Because I hadn't been feeling too great, I had booked an appointment to see my doctor at 9am.

"It got to 4am and I felt worse. Carol [fiancée] called the ambulance as I was really fighting hard to breathe. They came within 10 minutes and stayed for an hour and a half. They were brilliant.

"They asked if I wanted to go to hospital, but I felt better so stayed at home.

"But within 10 minutes of them going, I collapsed and so we had to phone again for an ambulance.

"This time, the ambulance took a lot longer to arrive. I was on the floor, gasping for breath. I honestly thought this was it, I was a goner.
