Irish fan pens book on Argentinian club

- BY KEITH FALKINER

AN Irish DJ who has just written a book on Boca Juniors has told Irish soccer fans: "You'll never experience anything like a live game in Argentina.

Rob Smith has held a lifelong fascination with the Buenos Aires club ever since their most famous player, Diego Maradona, rejoined them in the mid 1990s.

Rob, from Terenure in Dublin, has been to Boca's heaving La Bomberena stadium for big games, has played some shows in Argentina and even written a song about the club he loves.

And now he has turned his passion into a new book, Pure Bliss In La Boca, which he will be releasing at the end of July.

Speaking to the Irish Sunday Mirror, Rob said it was enjoyable researching the rich history of the club and even found some Irish links to the club's origin.

Boca was formed in 1905 by a group of young boys who were inspired by their Irish PE teacher Paddy McCarthy, a boxer from Tipperary.
