WONKY SYPHON

A FORMER Dublin Bus mechanic has admitted stealing €147 worth of diesel - by syphoning it from one of the organisation's own vehicles.

Daniel Byrne, 34, spent 14 years as a mechanic with Dublin Bus before the theft was discovered last year, a court heard.

Mr Byrne, with an address at Woodfarm Avenue in Palmerstown, south Dublin, pleaded guilty to stealing 100 litres of diesel when he appeared in front of Judge Treasa Kelly at Dublin District Court yesterday.

The offence was committed at the Dublin Bus depot on the city's Conyngham Road - right across the road from the Criminal Courts of Justice complex near the city centre where his case was heard.

imageMr Byrne pleaded guilty to one count of stealing 100 litres of diesel, worth €147, on July 5 last year. The fuel was the property of Dublin Bus.
