ETHEL Caterham, below, the world's oldest person, turned 116 this week. Here are some facts about achievements in later life.

MOVIE boss Adolph Zukor was appointed the honorary chairman of Paramount Pictures aged 100, a position he held for three years. He said: "If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself."

The longest lived member of the British royal family was Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester, who died in 2004, two months short of her 103rd birthday. The longest lived by blood rather than marriage was Princess Alice of Albany. She died at 97 in 1981.
