A SUPPORT group that helps devastated families' desperate searches for missing loved ones has called for closer links with UK's missing persons' units.

As part of *The Star's* Missed campaign that highlights the tragedy of Ireland's vanished people and the anguish of those left behind, we profile the cases of those who are seared into the national memory.

For years and decades, we have seen their faces looking out of missing posters and on TV for documentary reconstructions of their last known movements.

The case of recently missing Kerry farmer Michael Gaine is now as high profile as that of others like Philip Cairns (1986), Annie McCarrick (1993), and Trevor Deely (2000).
