IT was not a fist-pump of Tiger Woods-ferocity but it was a fist-pump all the same.

- BY ANDY DUNN at Royal Portrush

Having gone bogey-free for the previous 30 holes at Royal Portrush, Scottie Scheffler was faced with a 16-footer to save par on the par-three sixth.

The consequences of a miss would hardly have been catastrophic - he was in possession of a seven-shot lead.

But when he holed it, Scheffler was as animated as he had been all week.

He was celebrating the moment for its message. It was a message that told the field that he did not intend to give them even a glimmer of hope.

No, it was not a Tiger roar, but it was Tiger mentality.

And how would Tiger have responded to dropping shots for the first time in 33 holes, as Scheffler did with a double bogey on the eighth?

By drilling a 340-yard drive down the next, hitting a wedge to four foot and knocking in the birdie putt.

Oh, and just to reinforce the point, by then heading to the clubhouse without making another erroг.
