THE family of a woman strangled by her obsessed ex-boyfriend cheered as he was jailed for life yesterday and said: "She will always be remembered."
Miller Pacheco was caged for the murder of Bruna Fonseca, who was 28, in Cork on New Year's Day in 2023.
The heartless 32-year-old killer could not bear to see Bruna move on after she tried to end their relationship.
He murdered her when she came to his flat to Facetime her pet dog back home in Brazil.
Yesterday Bruna’s family and friends celebrated his life sentence while paying tribute to the tragic 28-year-old.
Bruna’s older sisters Izabel and Fernanda, her cousin Marcel and niece Maria all wore T-shirts bearing the image of their “unforgettable” loved one at the sentencing hearing.
In her victim impact statement, Izabel said at 4.45am on January 1, 2023 her family in Brazil received the most difficult phone call of their lives.
She told the court: “While we were celebrating the beginning of a new year we were left floored, speechless and joyless. We were told our baby sister was gone. Then came the hardest task telling our mother that her daughter would never return home.
“Then waiting for the remains, the wake and the burial. In the early hours of January 16th, Bruna arrived. She looked serene.
“When our mother tried to touch her, she felt a coldness that should never be a part of that farewell. That scene marked our family permanently. We fixed her hair and did her make up with all our love, so she would be as she always was.”
DREAMS
Izabel said the investigation made it clear Bruna was not to blame and the jury rejected Pacheco’s lies that he had put his ex girlfriend in a choke hold to stop her from hitting him.
