Donegal get back in the swing of things again

- BY PADDY TIERNEY

DONEGAL delivered a statement victory against Cavan with a hugely impressive 19-point win in Kingspan Breffni yesterday.

Donegal had never lost a League or Championship game in Ballybofey under Jim McGuinness until last Saturday's defeat to Tyrone.

Their All-Ireland credentials had been questioned over the last week but they delivered an emphatic answer to their detractors and the back-to-back Ulster winners are determined to be in the conversation as one of the most unpredictable Championships in years unfolds.

They led by seven points at the end of an ill-tempered first half thanks to a goal after the hooter by Finnbarr Roarty and they coasted to victory to leave all four teams on two points after two rounds.

McGuinness wouldn't elaborate on a heated exchange with Cavan boss Raymond Galligan in the first half when both men squared up to each other, but the Donegal manager was delighted his side returned to winning ways.

"It was a very tough battle there for a long time, but they responded really well to everything that was fired at them," said McGuinness.

"And we found that rhythm that we were looking for last week that wasn't there. Too many unforced errors, you know, bad decision-making.
