Lessons to learn before the school run

While some are able to do so either on foot or by bicycle, the vast majority still have to use their cars to get their kids to school.

However, parents are now being warned to be wary of the traffic violations that could land them with a fine when on the school run.

In a new study, leading car insurance group Quote Devil reveals the school run mistakes that could leave drivers with fines, penalty points, or even court dates.

They reveal how Irish drivers risk fines of up to €320 and five penalty points for failing to stop for school wardens.

Parking in a dangerous position outside schools could see parents fined up to €160 and hit with five penalty points.

Children not adhering to seat belt rules could see fines of up to €240 for the drivers.

A failure to yield by not giving way at junctions or pedestrian crossings, particularly near schools, can result in a fine of €160 and four penalty points.

With many roads around schools having a 20mph limit to ensure safety, speeding can also land offenders with a maximum fine of €240 and five penalty points.
