Sorrow of stillborn tot's mum as he'd be alive if delivered two days earlier'

- NICOLA DONNELLY

It's taken a long time to get answers

A WOMAN has said she believes her stillborn son would be alive today if she had been induced on the original date as planned by doctors at Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise almost five years ago.

Baby Timmy was stillborn to Eimear McCarthy on August 16, 2020 - 10 days after his initial planned induction date and two days after a rescheduled induction - at 17.15pm weighing 4.2kg. A true knot in the umbilical cord was the cause of his death.

Coroner Eugene O'Connor returned a narrative verdict following the inquest into baby Timmy's death at Laois County Council chambers yesterday.

The inquest heard from pathologist Dr John Gillan that if the plan to deliver baby Timmy by induction on three separate dates in August 2020 before his due date on August 14, 2020, had happened, on the balance of probability he would have been alive today.
