TROY PARROTT will never get tired of talking about his hat-trick heroics in Budapest — according to one man who knows what it's like to be constantly reminded about era-defining moments.

More than three decades later and Ray Houghton still gets asked about his golden goals against England at Euro 88 and Italy at the 1994 World Cup.

Houghton was in Budapest on Sunday as part of RTÉ's commentary team for the unforgettable last-gasp World Cup qualification win against Hungary.

His reaction to Parrott's 96th minute winner, which completed his hat-trick, quickly went viral as fans shared footage of the goal that sealed Ireland spot in the playoffs.

The Boys in Green legend said it was a "privilege" to be there for Parrott's history-making treble.

He described how, working alongside Darragh Maloney, he broke the rules of co-commentary as he lost himself in the moment.

As for Parrott, Houghton reckons people will still be coming up to the striker to talk about his magical five-goal window against Portugal and Hungary for decades to come.

"And he'll never get sick of it," Houghton said. "Those memories will always be there. I'm absolutely delighted for him and for all the boys."
