Fragile peace
Irish Daily Star
|October 23, 2025
THE ceasefire in Gaza holds, US Vice President JD Vance insisted yesterday, as the bodies of Palestinians continued to pile up following the uneasy agreement.
One person was killed in northern Gaza yesterday, adding to dozens who have died since the US-brokered ceasefire began on October 10.
On Sunday Israel ordered at least 20 strikes on southern Gaza over what it said were Hamas ceasefire breaches.
It also imposed an aid blockade which thwarts UN relief schemes and was blasted by the International Court of Justice yesterday. However, Israel denied it has violated international law.
Top US officials and envoys are visiting Israel this week to try to bolster the ceasefire.
