PHIL FODEN paid tribute to Ricky Hatton after admitting "I tried my best for him" following the boxer's untimely death.

Former world champion Hatton was a huge City fan and the Etihad gave an emotional minute's applause before kickoff ahead of the Manchester derby.

Foden, also a boyhood City fan, then opened the scoring before Erling Haaland hit a brace as they saw off Manchester United with ease.
