As if anyone at Leicester City needed to be reminded who he was, or what he had done.

At first glance, that gushing tribute might be considered an overstatement.

But when you look down the list of players who trail in Vardy's wake in the Premier League goals-coring stakes, it’s easy to see why the Foxes lavished such praise upon him.

His 143 goals beat the totals of the following strikers: Didier Drogba, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Dwight Yorke, Fernando Torres, Luis Suarez, Dennis Bergkamp, Nicolas Anelka and Romelu Lukaku.

There are some highly lauded forwards among that lot, and he bested them all.

However, there is one crucial difference between them and Vardy: not one of them created and lived through a fairytale like his.
