Tyrrell and Owens quit on a high after champs Dublin rout Royals

- ■ Paul KEANE

BLUES CRUISE

VETERAN duo Hannah Tyrrell and Nicole Owens fired Dublin to All-Ireland ladies SFC success at Croke Park — and then called it quits.

The crackshot forwards blasted 1-5 between them as the Dubs slayed old rivals Meath before announcing their retirements.

Owens struck the early goal that set Dublin on their way to a 2-16 to 0-10 win and Tyrrell finished with five points, leaving her Championship top scorer.

Tyrrell (34), was taken off with a knee injury in the closing minutes but still took part in the celebrations with her daughter Aoife.

Lucky

Asked if it was her last game for Dublin, former Ireland rugby international Tyrrell told RTÉ that it was.

"Yeah, how lucky am I?" smiled Tyrrell.

"I've been lucky enough to be from Dublin, to play for Dublin, to finish my career in Croke Park and to go out on a high."
