Life lesson for us all in Croker odyssey

EVERY once in a while special things happen in life, a moment of magic that brings tears to your eyes.

For everyone in Louth it was last Sunday in Croke Park when against all odds our heroic Gaelic football team booked their place in the All-Ireland semi-final for the first time in 69 years.

The wild scenes of celebration as the hooter sounded released a wave of emotion that had been building for decades and although we have won nothing yet the fairytale story of the Wee County as we are known has gripped the nation.

Marty Morrissey, a legend of Irish broadcasting, couldn't contain his excitement in the RTE commentary box as Louth roared to a three point win over our great friends and neighbours Monaghan.

He couldn't believe it, we couldn't believe it, the whole country couldn't believe it. How could a team with a man rightly or wrongly sent off after just six minutes of the match, manage to get over the line?

Yet they did it with pure grit, determination, energy, passion, conviction; in fact nothing or no-one was going to stop them.
