Rooney puts the boot into old club Shels

- MARK McCADDEN

DAMIEN DUFF was forced to watch from a grassy knoll as his Shelbourne side shot themselves in the foot in last night's Dublin derby.

Bohs saw off nine-man Shels with far more comfort than the 1-0 scoreline suggested. But they were given a huge helping hand by the champions, who lost captain Mark Coyle to a first-half red, and conceded from the subsequent Dayle Rooney penalty.

And as Duff's men chased the game, they went down to nine men when substitute Ali Coote was shown his second yellow in 25 minutes for a dive inside the box.

Duff stood on a hill behind the Bohs fans at the School End of Dalymount Park — with his laptop perched on a chair to watch replays of key incidents via Virgin Media's coverage.

He picked up the suspension for an accumulation of yellow cards.

Unfortunately for the Ireland legend, he had a great view of the incident that led to the game’s only goal — and both red cards.
