Doherty dismisses luck as reason his side top table and insists it's all down to graft
MIRACLE worker Kevin Doherty insists Drogheda's position at the top of the League of Ireland comes down to character and not luck.
United continue to defy the odds week after week and reclaimed top spot on Monday afternoon with a come-from-behind win over Cork at Sullivan and Lambe Park.
But it is their position at the bottom of the budget table which makes their place at the top of the actual table so impressive.
And now the thing they really want to win is some respect.
Doherty said: “We played very well against Cork even if it wasn't the most free-flowing game of football. We are missing a number of players as well but we have learned to get on with things in adversity.
“The spirit of the fans - the noise they generate, the positivity they show - plays a huge role in what we are doing. You can sense all the positivity in the warm-up, you can sense it in injury time when we are chasing a goal. It makes a difference.”

When you live in a place long enough, it ceases to be mere bricks & mortar... it invades your bones & becomes part of you
ON a cold, woebegone day, the kind of forlorn, half-lit, spirit-sapping January afternoon that pinstripes life with a thread of melancholy, I surrendered to an irresistible urge to seek asylum in the past.
