Asian hornet task force swarm in on invasive species nest

AN Asian hornet nest has been located thanks to an “intensive effort” by the National Parks and Wildlife Service after one of the insects was found earlier in August.

Junior Nature Minister Christopher O'Sullivan said the nest was located on the south side of Cork City following surveying and monitoring by a task force set up to trace the Asian hornet.

Wildlife staff had faced a race against time to find the nest before the queens left and began spreading the population.
