'No safe amount' of coke warning after tragedy of Wayne, 20

A CORONER warned there is no "safe" quantity of cocaine following the death of a student.

Wayne Hegarty, 20, died from a cardiac arrest due to the drug's toxicity even though the quantity in his body was not particularly high.

Coroner Dr Crona Gallagher said: "Cocaine can affect the heart. There is no safe dose."

Wayne's mother Grace told Dublin District Coroner's Court her son was in a good mood when she left her home at Foxhill Avenue, Donaghmede, north Dublin, to stay with her partner on December 16, 2023.

She told the coroner he did not phone the next day, which she thought "odd".
