'Jennie's Law will be a significant step for victims'

THE CEO of a domestic violence support service has welcomed the proposed legislation known as Jennie’s Law, saying it is a “significant step for victims”.
Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan is to seek Cabinet approval today for the establishment of a domestic violence register, to be called Jennie's Law.
Under the law, individuals convicted of domestic violence against a partner or former partner would be publicly named on a register of judgments.
The law has been named in honour of mum-of-two Jennifer Poole, murdered by her ex-partner Gavin Murphy in 2021.
Jennifer's brother Jason Poole has long campaigned for such a register.
