IRISHMAN JAILED AFTER SLY BEDSHEET ESCAPE

THIS Irish alleged conman has been locked up in Australia for travelling on a false passport - and for escaping detention by using bedsheets tied together.

And a court in Queensland that jailed Michael Connors yesterday heard he only went to Australia in the first place because of threats against him in Ireland.

"That was the reason for him travelling to Australia," his lawyer Mark Stone told Brisbane Magistrates Court.

"His intention was to bring his wife and his three children here."

Connors, 26, was sentenced to 12 months in prison - but will be released at the start of December.
