Infant remains are found at Tuam site

INFANT remains have been recovered from an excavation at the site of a former mother and baby home, according to initial assessments.

The dig at the site of St Mary's mother and baby home in Tuam, Co Galway, is attempting to identify the remains of infants who died at the home between 1925 and 1961.

Archaeologists and other experts started working at the site in July.

In 2014, research led by historian Catherine Corless indicated 796 babies and children were buried in a sewage system in that time period.
