A VISUALLY impaired hippopotamus at Dublin Zoo has undergone a historic, world-first cataract surgery, which has successfully restored sight in her left eye and transformed her life.

Imani, an 18-year-old common hippopotamus, was struggling with longstanding visual impairment, forcing her to navigate her enclosure slowly, relying on her muzzle and distinctive pink feet.

Now, thanks to a monumental effort by Dublin Zoo's dedicated animal care and veterinary teams, working alongside specialist surgeons, Imani is seeing clearly and has undergone a remarkable transformation, even being spotted running with newfound confidence.
