Former Dubs boss bids for FF nomination

GAVIN GOING FOR POLL IRELAND FINAL

JIM Gavin is contesting to be Fianna Fail's candidate for the presidential election.

Deputy leader Jack Chambers confirmed the former Dublin GAA boss is seeking the party's nomination, and that he will be backing him.

The Public Expenditure Minister said: "I understand Jim Gavin will seek the Fianna Fail presidential nomination.

"He is a person of integrity, humility and distinction with a strong record of public service throughout his life and career.

"He has my full support to be the Fianna Fail candidate and I believe he would make an exceptional President of Ireland."

Further Education Minister James Lawless has also backed Mr Gavin, saying he would be a "fine" president.
