FORMER UFC star Conor McGregor has been sending begging letters to local councils seeking support from them for his presidential election bid.

- BY KEITH FALKINER

Despite claiming last week that he already had the support of councils, McGregor is now making a desperate plea to local authorities to back him.

This newspaper revealed earlier this week how none of the 31 local authorities around the country had offered their support to McGregor.

In the letters McGregor sent to local councils, he says he believes "now is the time for a truly independent, people-first voice to enter Aras an Uachtarain - one that reflects the values, struggles, and aspirations of ordinary Irish citizens".
