DUBLIN Zoo last year spent €50,000 on two months of intensive, round-the-clock nursery care that ensured the survival of an infant Bornean orangutan, Sibu Junior (SJ).
The 2024 annual report for the Zoological Society of Ireland documents the lengths that Dublin Zoo care staff went to in a bid to ensure that SJ survived.
A Dublin Zoo spokesman said yesterday: “In animal welfare, cost comes second. Our priority is always to do whatever is needed to give an animal the best possible chance at life.”
