On Friday, a meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority was held at the Collectorate meeting hall with participation from Additional Collector (Local Bodies) Dr P Sreeja, NDMA Joint Advisor Naval Prakash, Administration Under Secretary Abhishek Biswas, DM Consultant Dr Wajeem Iqbal, Telangana State Disaster Management Authority Consultant Goutham Krishna Teja, B Anupama, TJ Sandra and other relevant officials.

The Collector gave a detailed PowerPoint presentation on last year's heavy floods, the arrangements and plans made for disaster management in the district. He explained the work carried out by departments such as Revenue, Irrigation, Municipal, Panchayati Raj, Medical & Health, and Animal Husbandry during emergencies.""Anudeep Durishetty highlighted that in just 24 hours last year, unprecedented floods struck Khammam city, submerging the Munneru river basin areas. In Tirumalayapalem Mandal's Rakasi Thanda and Ajmeera Thanda, NDRF teams rescued around 150 people. Six people lost their lives, he noted. The government provided 10,000 as aid per affected house, while livestock loss was also significant. Road repair works were undertaken post-floods. He emphasized enhanced readiness this year, with continuous monitoring of water sources and drought-like conditions. Accurate flood intensity forecasts are being made. Teams from Revenue, Police, and other departments, along with Aapda Mitra volunteers, are ready for rapid evacuation of people from submerged and low-lying areas.
