Salford have two points deducted

SALFORD Red Devils have been deducted two Super League competition points for breaching a number of RFL operational rules - a punishment that will also affect their IMG grading score.

The rule breaches are centred around the team selection for the round one fixture at St Helens on February 15 and are an ‘agreed decision’.

Operating under a sustainability cap after financial woes came to light, Salford took the decision to field a weaker team than ‘it needed to be’ and have copped a points deduction and fine.

Paul Rowley’s side lost 82-0 and opted to utilise a number of academy players. The result was a competition record for the widest-ever margin.
