Rejoining EU would be a more significant step

PETER Auty’s recent letter on Europe and migration highlights a common confusion in the debate (A state of chaos, The Yorkshire Post - Letters to the editor, July 24) / (What is this government trying to do? - Mailbox, Hull Daily Mail, July 18).

He says “uppermost” in the minds of the Labour leadership “is the reset (rejoin) of the UK to the EU”. Mr Auty uses ‘reset (rejoin)’ as if they were the same thing.

They're not. Reset was in the Labour manifesto. Rejoining would be a far more significant step, but one with growing public support, among Labour supporters especially.
