Collapse of ocean current system would have dire consequences

LAST month, citizens and scientists protested outside the Metropolitan Police HQ, BBC Broadcasting House and ITN HQ to raise awareness of the “AMOC bomb”.

Dire warnings from scientists are being largely ignored by the Government and media, so our nation is not preparing for AMOс collapse.

So what is AMOC?

The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) is an ocean current system that transports warm surface water from the tropics to the North Atlantic, including the UK and Scandinavia.

As the water cools at the poles, it forms ice. The remaining water has high salinity and density, which causes it to sink and flow southward in the deep ocean.

This deep water eventually rises to the surface in a process called upwelling, completing the cycle.
