BEVERLEY left their league woes behind to progress to the third round of the National Cup with a hard fought 18-15 win over Market Rasen.

The visitors, sitting top of Counties 1 Midlands (North), came with a diametrically opposed record to Beverley, with five straight league wins and proved a formidable hurdle.

From the off the visitors took the game to Beverley with their well drilled pack and lively backs pushing Beverley back towards the club house, as the home side played into a stiff wind.

Market Rasen opened the scoring with a penalty after the Beavers infringed at a ruck.

Thereafter, much of the first half was littered with penalties. The Beavers’ defence did well to keep Market Rasen at arm's length with Felix Law and Harry Rudkin tackling anything that moved.

Beverley's forwards drove them forward and a smart offload by Danny Morris to Isaac Keighley, who in turn slipped it to Sam Bayes allowed him to score in the corner for 5-3 to Beverley.
