ADRIAN Lam has revealed a trump card in Leigh Leopards' defence of prop forward Joe Ofahengaue this week: the club's owner, Derek Beamount.

Using his law knowledge, with a degree behind him, Beaumont successfully wiped the three penalty points from the Leigh prop's record - with the appeal at an RFL independent tribunal coming with its own risks.
Under new disciplinary rules this season, a further five penalty points are added to a player's record should an appeal be unsuccessful, with a £1,000 fine added as well. This would have resulted in a ban for Ofahengaue if Leigh had failed to argue their case, but they had Beaumont on point to the delight of Lam.
