Wheat prices soar as Russia strikes Ukraine's port cities

Ukraine's prez had said 60,000 tonnes of agricultural products destined for China had been destroyed in an earlier attack

Wheat prices continued to soar on Thursday as a third night of Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports in Odesa and Mykolaiv renewed concerns about disruptions to exports needed to meet world demand and stave off rising food prices.

Wheat futures have surged over 11% in the past three days, with Russia earlier this week ending the Ukraine grain deal.

In the days since its withdrawal from the accord, which was initially agreed a year ago, Russia has repeatedly targeted Ukraine's agriculture infrastructure - shelling ports and damaging crop terminals. Ukraine's largest sunflower-oil producer, Kernel SA, said damage at one of its facilities could take at least a year to repair.
