With the Colosseum in Rome being vandalised thrice in the past few weeks, it may be time to consider possible checks and enforcement of responsible tourism
What's the value of any heritage site? It's inestimable, which is why acts of defacement and vandalism meted out to them spark much sound and fury. In the latest instance, a British tourist used a key to engrave his name and that of his girlfriend onto the internal wall of the Colosseum in Rome, Italy. Close on the heels of this incident, a German student and a Swiss teen have been caught defacing the World Heritage Site that goes back two millennia, in two separate instances.
