Tense calm prevails at Punjab, Haryana borders after one dies

Scores of farmers continued to camp at Khanauri and Shambhu bordering Punjab and Haryana late on Wednesday, even as farmers' leaders put the "Delhi Chalo" march on hold for 48 hours after a protester was killed and 12 police personnel injured in clashes during the day.
"At this hour, the situation at Shambhu and Khanouri borders is under the pall of uneasy calm. The number of farmers declined in the evening at both the sites after clashes throughout the day," a senior officer from the intelligence unit of Punjab Police said, requesting anonymity.
A farmers' leader, however, said the number of protesters will increase at both borders, as farmer unions in Haryana also announced to move towards Khanauri on February 23.
"Scor of farmers ind and Hisar will move towards Khanauri on February 23. I urge state farmers to get ready for another battle," Haryana SKM leader Suresh Koth said.
