'Khalistan backers don't reflect view of all Canada's Sikhs'

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said for the first time that Khalistani separatists don't represent Canada's entire Sikh community, with the remarks coming amid a diplomatic row with India over the activities of pro-Khalistan elements.
Trudeau made the comments at an event held on November 4 at Ottawa's Parliament Hill to celebrate Diwali and Bandi Chhor Diwas. The Diwali event was organised by cabinet ministers Anita Anand and Gary Anandasangaree.
A video of Trudeau's remarks to the gathering was shared with HT by an attendee. Trudeau said: "There are many supporters of Khalistan in Canada but they do not represent the Sikh community as a whole."
He added: "There is no room for violence or intolerance or intimidation or division. That is not who we are."
