Farmers to observe Bharat Bandh today, block all major roads

Several farmer unions, including the Sanyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), will observe a Bharat Bandh across the country on Thursday to pressure the Centre to accept various demands, as a third rounds of talks with the government failed to end the deadlock.

The call for the 10-hour strike from 6am to 4pm-is expected to bring everyday life to a standstill as farmers said they will block main roads across the country from 12pm to 4pm. They have also decided to block railway tracks for four hours in the afternoon and hold protest marches at key locations across districts.

While the strike call was formally issued by the SKM and Central Trade Unions (CTUS) in December, BKU national spokesperson Rakesh Tikait said the farmers would observe the strike to protest several agricultural issues in the country.
