BJP is weaponising suspension of MPs: Kharge to Dhankhar
Hindustan Times
|December 26, 2023
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is "weaponising" the suspension of lawmakers from Parliament as a convenient tool to "undermine democracy", Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said in new letter to RS chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday, days after the latter invited him again for an interaction over the matter.

Vice President Dhankhar had written a second letter to Kharge on December 23, seeking a meeting on December 25 to discuss the suspension of 146 MPs during the Winter session of Parliament that culminated last week. The suspensions took place amid protests by opposition MPs who were seeking a discussion on the December 13 Parliament security breach and a statement by Union home minister Amit Shah. In his letter, Dhankar termed Opposition's disruption of parliamentary proceedings "deliberate and strategised".
