2 terrorists killed as week-long gunfight in Anantnag winds up

Two terrorists, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Uzair Khan, were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Garole forest area of Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on Tuesday, bringing an end to the operation that lasted for seven days, a senior police officer said.

The search operation, however, will continue as many areas are left to be cleared, additional director general of police (ADGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said, adding four security personnel, including two army officers and a police officer, lost their lives in the encounter.

"Till now, Uzair Khan's body has been recovered. The dead body of another terrorist is visible, but it has not been possible to retrieve it yet," Kumar told reporters. "There is a possibility that the third dead body may be somewhere. It will be known after the search is complete." The search operation will continue, the ADGP said.
